I've recently surrendered to the call to be a Chaplain in the United States Army. Though it was a very difficult decision to leave my church, I knew I had to follow the Lord in whatever He asked of me. My church has been a huge blessing to me and my family over the last 6 and a half years and it would be very easy to stay. I know the road ahead will be difficult at times, but I also know the only place to be is where the Lord wants you.
In just 10 weeks I will be headed off to the Chaplain Officer's Basic Leadership Course where I will begin my new adventure. After three months of training, we will move far from family and friends. I am beginning to feel at least some of what Abraham must have felt when God told him to leave his country, his people and his father's household and go to the land God would show him (Genesis 12:1). I know where I am going, I just don't know what it will be like when I get there. But, it's exciting to walk by faith!
As I begin to prepare for this, I pray God will give me and my wife guidance for all we need to accomplish before I leave, as well as strength and peace for my church family. We are all walking by faith, knowing that God has a new man who will take my place. I know this is difficult for my church family, but I also know their hearts are open to whatever the Lord desires for all of us. I look forward to what God has in store for everyone involved, and one thing I do know - God is in control!
